Our Own Exclusive 2011 "Just Play Ball" T-Shirt!
It turns out that 2010 wasn't all that great a season either, but here we are in 2011, and things really do seem to be looking up. We've got a brand new, first class front office full of smart people, well respected in the Baseball world, a new field manager with the "fire" we fans have been craving, along with boundless energy and the respect of his players. And we have a team reinvigorated through the replacement of some of the monumental disappointments of the past few years with a number of fresh faces, all of whom are bound and determined to defy expectations and make the 2011 Mets the legitimate contender they all believe they can be.
We can't say if the Mets are going to make the playoffs this year – that frankly seems like a bit of a long shot – but we do think they have a much better chance of it than they've been given credit for. More importantly, win or lose, we think these will be exciting times for the Mets and for Met fans, and we're anxious to see this new team play and, we hope, turn a few heads. We're looking forward to some baseball this year. And we can hardly wait for opening day.
Unfortunately, the very interesting story of the 2011 Mets, the baseball team, has been overshadowed a great deal this year by another story, the story of the 2011 Mets, the business that may or may not be in the midst of major financial trouble, and the story of Sterling Equities and the Wilpon Family, principle owners of the Mets, and whether or not they were somehow complicit in the crimes committed by one Bernard L. Madoff, convicted Ponzi scheme runner and defrauder of thousands of innocent investors. It's not that we think the Madoff story isn't important, or more important in the grand scheme of things than a game played with balls and sticks, but it's not like Irving Picard has pictures of Fred Wilpon with his hands in a cookie jar, either. The law suit is being contested – vehemently contested – by the Wilpons, and all indications are that it will be quite a while before it is resolved. Until then, the baseball team that the Wilpons happen to own is about to embark on an exciting new season and we think that should be the story, at least in the baseball press, and the blogosphere, and talk radio. We are baseball fans, not law suit fans. The end result of the law suit is probably months, maybe even years off, and in the mean time, we choose to celebrate the game we love, not the back rooms of the business that runs it. Especially since very few of us actually know anything about what's going on in those back rooms. And that's the message of this year's MyMetCar.com T-shirt: Enough with the legal stuff, already. Stop speculating about things you know little or nothing about – leave that to the lawyers and the accountants. And let's play ball. We think most fans – the great, silent majority of them – will agree, and so we are offering our 2011 "Just Play Ball" T-shirts here on our website. The shirts have the full text (blah blah ...) shown above on the back, and the simple message "Just Play Ball" on the front. They're available in standard unisex T-shirt sizes: S, M, L, XL, and 2XL. Shirts are $20 a piece, which includes ALL applicable taxes and free Priority Mail® shipping anywhere in the USA. Please allow 7-10 days for delivery. We do not stock these shirts in large quantities and must essentially make them (in batches) to order. By the way, if you're planning on being at Citi Field on opening day (Friday, April 8th), we're planning a little get-together before the game; come meet us and other fans, check out the Met Car, and pick up your T-shirt in time to wear it to the game! E-mail us a note if you're interested. We use PayPal for secure on-line payment processing. Through PayPal, we accept all major credit cards, e-checks, and, of course, payment from other PayPal accounts. Please note: Your credit card statement and PayPal receipt will show a payment to Compendic Technology, LLC (it will not say "My Met Car"). Got any questions? Problems? Order issues? e-mail them to us at info (at) MyMetCar.com. |
